Exposing children to good literature is key to developing both language and a love of learning.  Childrens’ literature is not only enjoyable for the child (and the adult), but kids books enrich creativity, expand horizons and build a foundation of learning to which nothing compares.  We are always looking for the great stories for kids  so that both the child and the adult enjoy their reading time.  Here is a book list for preschool and kingarteners:

Horray for The Paper Bag Princess! My favorite. I don’t know all of these, though, so I can’t wait to pick them up the next time we go to the library. Cheers!

Pizza Princess should go into business with the Paper Bag one, for sure! My son really likes them, too (which is part of my plan…)

I’m glad to hear! That was our intent! We are voracious readers here and always looking for new titles. Everyone already knows the stand-bys (Dr. Seuss, Fancy Nancy, Olivia, Curious George, etc). These are all really wonderful books. These are impowering stories (strong male & female role-modeling), entertaining and have been re-read so many times by my kids. Let me know how it goes!

Shall do! Thanks so much. Have you come across Shirley Hughes. They are English, but I think just lovely. I cannot read Angel Mae without crying, and my neighbour can’t read Dogger without a blub. The NZ authors Lynley Dodd and Margaret Mahy are also worth a look.
