FAMILY PAJAMA SETS

October 10, 2013

Family Pajama Sets are the BEST gifts for the holidays, even for the deepest cynic.  Family pj sets are practical (who couldn’t use a new pair of pajamas every once in a while) and yes, they will bring the family together… even if it’s only for that one holiday afternoon photo op!  The biggest fans of Family PJ sets?  The kids, of course!  Bury your inner cynic for just a day.  It’ll be worth the memories.

KIDS CHRISTMAS BOOKS

December 3, 2012 2 Comments

One of our favorite Christmas family traditions is our stash of Christmas books.  Upon the suggestion of a very good friend, I keep my kids’ Christmas books hidden out of sight until Dec. 1st.  Then, I bring out the stack and the kids read them during the entire month of December.   It refreshes our “library” and with all the great stories come many memories of years past.   There’s nothing better than reading one of these curled up on the sofa with my kids, ushering in the season of giving.  Here are some of the all-time-favorites of our ever-growing collection:

ART KITS for KIDS

October 31, 2012

My children never tire of drawing… but their markers and colored pencils do.  All the crayons are broken with the paper peeled off, the blue marker no longer writes and the watercolors are all a shade of black.  Fresh, new art kits are a delight for children — and one of the perfect answers to a grandparents question of “What should be get the grandchildren for the holidays?”  Here are various levels and prices:

Finding a great story book for your children isn’t always easy — but who doesn’t love to read aloud children’s books at bedtime?   Sometimes, it is the popular story book that is wonderful – but often, we find the best selection of kids stories and children authors are of those less known.  As we head into the new school year, here are great stories for kids that we hope will stimulate your child’s love of reading.

BACKPACKS FOR GIRLS & TEENS

July 19, 2012

Backpacks are a mainstain for school (and travel and camp and sleepovers).  Shopping for a girls backpack is (fairly) easy online – although the biggest obstacle is the selection.  There are SO MANY.  Back to school shopping is one of my daughter’s favorite times of year; our annual SHOP FOR BACKPACKS online excursion is her #1 top, for sure.  Here is our list of the best websites for buying kids backpacks & lunch boxes.

BEST WEBSITES TO BUY SCHOOL UNIFORMS

July 13, 2012

School Uniforms are easy to buy on the internet.  There’s not much in style variety – and ease of shopping online is (most) often worth the chance on sizing.  If you’re uncertain as to size, buy the larger of the two — children always grow!  While some schools require buying uniforms for a specific vendor, we’ve found that schools are becoming more flexible and/or are branching out amongst stores.  Here are the leading online websites offering uniform selections.  Happy Times for Moms!

June 14, 2012

Spare change bulging out your wallet?  Coins littering the kitchen countertop?  Piggy banks aren’t just useful for children.  They are perfect for the entry table, right next to the key bowl.  Or on your desk, claiming all those pennies that otherwise sit in your pencil drawer.  Here are some of the most interesting (and well-designed) we could find:

BEST STORES for KID PAJAMAS

June 4, 2012

Kid Pajamas are one of those basic kid clothing categories for which we find we are always shopping.  Kids outgrown them quickly.  Seasons change.   Since size isn’t a big factor (our kids don’t need a “perfect fit” in their sleepwear) and style hasn’t changed over the decades (a nightgown is a still a nightgown and pjs are still bottoms and tops), kids pajamas are perfect for buying online.  Some of our favorite kid clothing websites sell pajamas that get better with time (Hanna Anderson in particular) so for those we can pass down from brother to sister, we’re willing to splurge.  Otherwise, we buy them on sale.  Here are the places we check regularly for deals on kid pjs:
