DECOUPAGE GLASS TRAYS

January 9, 2013

Decoupage glass trays are an easy way to upscale a coffee or console table.  A neat stack of large art books, a silver frame, a set of beautiful coasters.  Such a vignette sets an artful scene and helps transform a living room.  One of our favorite accessories of top interior designers is the decoupage tray.  Fashioned from paper glued to (or pressed between) glass trays, they offer a burst of color, whimsey or sophistication.  They offer texture to give depth to a arrrangement, pattern to tie colors together, color accent to liven things up or the feel of art to an otherwise uninspiring set-up.   They also have a practical value as a place to dump change, your jewelry or your keys.  Check these out:

NIGHTLIGHTS (FOR THE HOUSE)

September 19, 2012

Nightlights are an important safety accessory for your house; they’re not just for the kids’ rooms any more.   We like a nightlight in the hallway for late night visits to the bathroom or in case you need to investigate that “bump in the night.”  Buying night lights online is so easy — and they fairly inexpensive.  If only guard dogs were the same!

GARDEN SEATS

August 7, 2012 2 Comments

Garden seats are beautiful and practical.  Here, we’ve focused on ceramic garden seats and stools because they require minimal (almost none) maintenance and they’re very versatile.  High-glaze ceramic garden stools work perfectly inside or out.  They serve as additional seating, side tables or ornamental sculptures in rain or shine.  Over the years, garden seat designs have gotten much more intricate and there are many more styles and colors to choose from.  Here are a few modern, traditional, solid and patterned garden seats that caught our eye:

STOOLS & SIDE TABLES

August 3, 2012 5 Comments

Stools and side tables make great accent tables and without a big investment, can change the look and feel of a room.  End tables, in the form of a stool, are perfect to house wine glasses or magazines next to the sofa.  Or drag the stool and prop your feet up.  Or use a stool as extra seating at the dinner table.  Stools, whether made from wood, plastic, metal or cork, can switch around the room as you need them.   What’s not to love about the practical (and pretty) nature these accent tables?

MAGAZINE STORAGE BASKETS & BINS

May 24, 2012

We are always looking for good storage ideas and magazines stoarage presents a particular challenge — form and function are needed.  We don’t like piles of magazines cluttering our table tops (or gathering dust under our beds).  Magazine racks, magazine bins and magazine baskets are best when incorporated into the room’s design so that they fade into the background.  Beside a chair or sofa works best because then, they’re in arms’ reach of the reader.   Here are some of our favorite choices for magazine storage in the spectrum from classic to modern.

NOVELTY KITCHEN GLASSES

May 7, 2012

Novelty kitchen glasses are an easy (and fun) way to spruce up your kitchen experience.  They add whimsy and character to the basics (like drinking water) — and price wise, they won’t break the bank.  Upgrading or “stylizing” the basics, which are used daily, are probably a better use of your money than the expensive champagne glasses that get used once every 3 years.  Here are some that should bring a small smile to your face when you’re filling ’em — and yes, they go over very well with children!
